ISLANDWOOD AT THE CLIMATE TEACHER EDUCATION DESIGN INSTITUTE

In July, IslandWood graduate program faculty Dr. Déana Scipio, Dr. Priya Pugh, Renée Comesotti, and IslandWood’s Senior Manager of Professional Development, Brad Street, attended the Climetime funded Climate Teacher Education Design Institute at The Institute for Science + Math at the UW College of Education. They presented lightning talks along with teacher education faculty from across Washington state on meaningfully integrating climate science into teacher education programs.

The IslandWood cross-departmental team included Education Team members from the School Overnight Program, Education for Environment & Community Grad Program, and Urban School Program. We used the focused time together to think about how climate justice does and can continue to show up in all our programs for youth and adult learners.

It was such a treat to present and share knowledge with so many fantastic science teacher educators! After all, educators play a critical role in helping our community develop the knowledge, practices, and relationships needed to transform our society.
