2024 BAINBRIDGE ISLAND EARTH MONTH

April 1 - April 30

Island Wood is thrilled to be collaborating with Bainbridge Island community partners to provide an Earth Month full of diverse activities and adventure for all! Our goal is to inspire everyone to protect our trees, our environment, and our planet all month and throughout the year.

 

Some Earth Month Events and Activities:

 

Learn to attract Predatory Insects to Protect Your Garden, April 2, 6:30-8 pm on a Veg Club Zoom session. Meet the many insects that protect your garden from pests. Get tips to build their populations so they’re ready to go to work when pests arrive.

 

Afternoon on the Trails — Sun, April 7, 1 – 5pm, IslandWood’s trail systems will be open for family-friendly exploration. Every season there’s something new to see, especially in spring!

 

Red Pine Park Work Party — Tue, April 9th, 10am – Noon, at Red Pine Park – Work with the Park District’s horticulture staff to maintain garden beds, a historic fruit orchard, edible perennials, and other historic plantings in this former homestead in the heart of downtown, 418 Wood Ave.

 

Spring Skills of a Naturalist: Breakfast with the Birds — Fridays: April 12, 19, and 26 from 7am – 9 am at IslandWood. Enjoy a tasty spread of bagels, coffee, and more before venturing out on a guided birdwatching adventure through our diverse habitats. Attend one or all three!

 

Conservation Work Party — Sat, April 8, 10am – Noon, at Battle Point Park – Volunteers will meet at the Duck Pond to spread mulch for tree and soil health and pull invasive weeds like ivy and Scotch broom.

 

Geology Rocks! — Sun, April 14, 2 pm – 3:30 pm, at IslandWood. John Cornish is a passionate mineral and fossil educator who inspires audiences of all ages with his dynamic Geology ROCKS! program and stunning displays of geological treasures.

 

Moritani Preserve Work Party — Thu, April 18, 10am-noon, Moritani Preserve. Join the Park District’s Natural Resources team and the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation in caring for the woods and meadows of Moritani Preserve.

 

City Nature Challenge 2024: Kitsap County — April 26-29, all over Kitsap County. Islandwood and the Bainbridge Island Land Trust are leading Kitsap County in participating in the 2024 City Nature Challenge – a nature observation event using the iNaturalist app.
