Like mushrooms, but don’t know where to start? IslandWood is the perfect place to start a lifelong learning journey with fungi. The Pacific Northwest is turning a corner towards drizzly, cool days, and that means our local fall mushrooms are in season now but won’t last forever. The fungi in our forests come in a variety of colors, shapes, textures and yes, even odors. Learn about the lives of mushrooms in your backyard and be prepared to ‘get your geek on’ with other mycology enthusiasts.
Join us for a lecture that will explore the natural history of the fungus among us in an entertaining and informative presentation. Which fungi are choice edibles in our woods and which should you avoid? As in year’s past, we invite you to bring in mushrooms from your yard to add to our collective display. Mycologists from the Kitsap Peninsula Mycological Society will be on hand to help you identify your fungi.
