IslandWood has developed a new outdoor field study designed to apply Next Generation Science Standards engineering practices to a local stormwater site in Seattle. Students investigate how engineers have attempted to solve problems associated with stormwater runoff by using models, testing how solutions are working, and considering the needs of stakeholders. This program utilizes a variety of outdoor locations around the city to situate learning as close to students' schools as possible.
This program connects to Seattle Public School's 4th grade Community Waters Science Unit. It incorporates Next Generation Science Standards and supports the 3-5 Engineering Design performance expectations. IslandWood's Land and Water Field Study is being replaced by this program.
Who: 4th graders in Seattle
Time: 3.5 hours including lunch break, 9:30 -1:00
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays, September through December and March through June, coordinated with Community Waters science unit.
Where: A stormwater infrastructure location as close to your school as possible. Locations for 2018-19 include the Thornton Creek Water Quality Channel, High Point Community Development and Mapes Creek at Beer Sheva Park
Cost: Free! This program is fully funded by Seattle Public Utilities. Transportation assistance available.

Please note that there are separate links for different group sizes. If you are registering for more than 60 students you will have to submit multiple registrations.
Priority registration will go to teachers teaching the Community Waters Science Unit in 4th grade in Seattle Public Schools.
