NGSS IN ACTION: ENGINEERING COMMUNITY SOLUTIONS (IN WOODINVILLE)

August 17, 2019 @ 2:00 am - 9:00 am

Free

You will learn tangible ways to take your students outside, engage your students with engineering concepts, and learn how other teachers have succeeded or altered a lesson for success.

– Workshop Participant

Learn how to use an Engineering Design Process to help students investigate local problems, identify stakeholers and develop solutions as you interact with a real world schoolyard engineering problem. Then, explore what is involved in putting student ideas into action including possible real-world constraints, practical small-scale solutions, potential partners and mini-grant options. We’ll work together to figure out a plan for the topics and students you teach.

Important Notes:

  • You are strongly encouraged to attend our Science in your Schoolyard Workshop before this one. This workshop will also be taking place in South King County, Pierce County and Kitsap County.
  • This workshop is intended for teachers and informal educators who teach science to 2nd through 8th grade students. Other teachers are welcome to join but may find the examples provided less relevant to their classrooms.
  • We encourage teachers to bring your grade level team.
  • This workshop includes a $120 stipend for public school teachers who complete related surveys. The stipend will be mailed (with other stipends and workshop fee refunds) at the end of the school year.
  • 6 STEM clock hours are available pending approval from the Puget Sound ESD. Clock hours will need to be claimed and paid for on the ESD website after the workshop is complete.

This is an IslandWood-King County program funded by King County Wastewater and OSPI through its ClimeTime Grant.
