2022 INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY CELEBRATION

Join in community to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Bainbridge Island with learning, conversation, and fun! This event spans over two days, with a hands-on drum making workshop on Sunday and a gathering on Monday with refreshments such as fry bread tacos by chef Shelly Price, as well as a traditional song and welcome drumming, and a screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children followed by a panel discussion.  We hope you’ll join us at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) Commons!

 

Community Gathering and Welcoming Song

Monday, October 10, 5 – 7:00pm

Join with others in celebration with food and friendship from 5-7pm in the BARN Commons!  Fry bread and fry bread tacos will be available for purchase, with free lemonade and cookies available to all.  At 6:45pm we’ll have a welcome song and drumming led by Chief Dale Harry.  Those who wish may learn the song in a practice with Chief Dale from 5:45 – 6:45pm.  All are welcome at this free event! Film Screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children & Panel Discussion

Honor Thy Mother poster graphicWe are pleased to share a screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children, which tells the the story Aboriginal women from Canada and Native women from tribes in Washington and Alaska who migrated in the 1940s to Bainbridge Island, the traditional territory of the Suquamish people, and married Filipino immigrants.  After the screening, hear more stories and ask questions during a panel discussion with members of the Indipino community who are featured in the film.

 

The events on Monday are free but registration is required as space is limited.

 

We hope you will join us in celebrating the Indigenous community!

 

Please note these events are taking place at the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) and NOT at IslandWood’s Bainbridge Island campus.
