Pronouns: she/her/hers
Born in Indianapolis, Kathleen grew up birding and hiking throughout the Midwest and Appalachia. Inspired by her parents love of nature and advocacy work, she always knew she wanted a career in this field. Kathleen earned Bachelor’s degrees in Sustainability Studies and Geography with concentrations in Biodiversity and Justice at Indiana University. During college she worked for IU’s Critical Food Studies Lab researching the emergency food system and service deserts. Kathleen has worked in environmental education ranging from the barrier islands of North Carolina to the tidewater glaciers of Alaska. Her work has ranged from city parks and federal lands, to nature stores and nonprofits. She is extremely grateful for all of the beautiful places she has lived and most importantly, the amazing communities she has had the opportunity work with. Kathleen strives to promote equity, justice, and inclusion wherever she goes!
IslandWood acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Coast Salish people, who have been stewards of this region's land and waters since time immemorial, and who continue to protect these lands and waters for future generations, as promised by the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, the Treaty of Point No Point of 1855, and the Treaty of Medicine Creek of 1854.
While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish (suq̀ʷabš) and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
