Learn more about how our Seattle stormwater systems and related conservation issues can connect to students and support science learning at home.
When was the last time it rained, and where did that water end up? How does this connect to what you’re teaching, or what you would like to teach?
Join IslandWood and Seattle Public Utilities to uncover the often-hidden stormwater systems in Seattle! Then, collaborate with other teachers to brainstorm how you might use this content and related phenomena with your students.
This workshop is aimed at 3rd-8th grade teachers in Seattle; informal educators are welcome. 2 STEM clock hours available.
We will be meeting online via Zoom.
Workshop Objectives:
1. Build understanding of urban water systems phenomena, including storm water and Combined Sewer Overflows, and how you and your students interact with them.
2. Work with IslandWood staff and other teachers to identify stormwater phenomena and NGSS connections.
3. Use at-home science learning “best practices” to generate and share ideas about how water systems content can be integrated into classroom curriculum.
