October 9, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Due to incredible demand, this event has sold-out online and we’re running a wait-list for any tickets that become available. Please add your name to the waitlist here.

As part of national Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 9th 2023, IslandWood is proud to host an educational and celebration event on our Bainbridge Island campus. This year’s event includes demonstrations of cedar weaving, a free hands-on craft making of traditional clappers and learning a drum song and dance. Traditional songs and dances are offered by the Suquamish Song & Dance group to welcome guests and honor their Elders. There will be an educational seated presentation called Nooksack 306 We Belong: A Dispute over Ancestry and Membership which will be presented by Toni Jones and Christina Corpuz-Peato.

We will end the day in celebration by teaching all who wish to learn, a traditional song and dance in our beautiful Dining Hall Meadow.

Our event is primarily indoors, and is rain or shine! Please note that there will be no available food for purchase. IslandWood will provide some light refreshments, including IslandWood’s cookies, and a housemade, land-based nettle tea, coffee, fresh fruit and lemonade.
