Pronouns: he/him/his
While growing up in New England, Zack always had a strong passion for nature and science. From fishing with his Dad to camping out in his cousins’ backyard, he had an early interest in outdoor experiences. Zack received a Bachelor of Science from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL where he majored in Marine Biology and minored in Coastal Management.
After college, Zack worked as the Education Programs Coordinator for the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association in Bellingham, WA. It is in this position where he discovered his passion for providing engaging outdoor experiences for others, particularly youth, while taking students on field trips to different stream sites to learn the importance of salmon ecology. Most recently, Zack spent close to five years working as the Education Programs Manager for the Watershed Research and Training Center located in Trinity County, CA. He greatly enjoyed the challenge of bringing high level environmental education programs to this rural and traditionally underserved community.
In his role as the SOP Manager with IslandWood, Zack most enjoys getting to support outdoor learning for youth from a wide variety of backgrounds while getting to learn from the esteemed IslandWood staff himself.
IslandWood acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Coast Salish people, who have been stewards of this region's land and waters since time immemorial, and who continue to protect these lands and waters for future generations, as promised by the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, the Treaty of Point No Point of 1855, and the Treaty of Medicine Creek of 1854.
While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish (suq̀ʷabš) and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
