JUSTICE, EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION IN OUR PRIVATE EVENTS

Here are some of the ways we’ve been working to incorporate justice, equity, diversity & inclusion (JEDI) into our Private Events. We keep growing, learning, and looking to implement our learnings.

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

We have redesigned our marketing materials to increase visual representation of people of color and LGBTQ+ couples.
On our forms and in other communications to clients, we have removed gender pronouns and phrases such as “bride” or “groom,” in favor of “couple.”

EVENT OFFERINGS

We’ve expanded our wedding offerings to meet a wider range of client budgets.
We provide discounts for retreats and other events that center social justice.

EVENT DELIVERY

Upon request, we make restrooms gender-neutral, and post signage denoting gender-neutral bathrooms, at events where possible.
All event staff are trained on our Inclusive Communications Guidelines.
Our kitchen creates meals that celebrate all cultures.
For wedding events, we invite couples to honor and celebrate their own preferences, customs, and cultures by working with us to create their menu.

IslandWood acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Coast Salish people, who have been stewards of this region's land and waters since time immemorial, and who continue to protect these lands and waters for future generations, as promised by the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, the Treaty of Point No Point of 1855, and the Treaty of Medicine Creek of 1854.

While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish (suq̀ʷabš) and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
