In celebration of their 50th anniversary, Microsoft is honoring people and organizations across the Puget Sound that “help make our region such a vibrant center of innovation, creativity, and inclusion.” Through their One Future, One Sound initiative, they have granted $50,000 to 50 organizations that “address the needs of the region, focusing on efforts that benefit the community, protecting civic jewels and iconic places, and supporting our neighbors in need.” IslandWood is honored to have received this prestigious grant at a time when we are serving a record number of students and educators in our region! Microsoft’s investment will help support IslandWood’s educational programs that serve 25,000+ youth from the Puget Sound area, inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
As Microsoft shared in their profile of IslandWood and other local changemakers, “The impact of IslandWood on the community is profound. By fostering environmental stewardship and providing accessible nature-based learning, IslandWood is shaping a future where every child can connect with and care for the natural world.”
We are also thrilled to have Kate Bedient, IslandWood’s Director of Urban School Programs good work highlighted! For many years, Kate and her team have been working to significantly broaden IslandWood’s reach with programs throughout Seattle and redefine the concept of “environment” to include urban systems, ensuring that environmental education is relevant and accessible to a wide range of communities and under-resourced schools.
