CAMPUS VISIT DAY FOR PROSPECTIVE GRADUATE STUDENTS

March 13, 2022 @ 1:30 am - 6:00 am

Our foundational graduate program in Education for Environment and Community (EEC), offered in partnership with the University of Washington, is a 10-month teaching residency preparing culturally-responsive educators capable of catalyzing community and environmental stewardship.

The program serves as the first three quarters of the M.Ed degree at the University of Washington’s nationally-ranked College of Education. It also fulfills the prerequisites for application to the Master’s in Teaching for Elementary Teacher Education program at the University of Washington.

To gain a deeper understanding of admissions and student life at IslandWood, we invite you to visit our campus on Bainbridge Island, Washington.  During your visit, you will:

  • Go on a campus tour. During the 1 hour/2-3-mile tour of our LEED Gold certified buildings and our 250-acre forested campus, you will explore diverse ecosystems (forest, stream, pond, bog, and marsh) and graduate housing. The day will end with a visit to our popular garden classroom.
  • Attend a brief info session to learn about admissions, financial aid, and the student experience. Learn how to strengthen your application for admission to the University of Washington and IslandWood and what to expect after confirming enrollment.
  • Have the opportunity to mingle with local alumni. Connect with alumni and hear about their experiences at Islandwood and how those experiences have impacted their life beyond our campus.
  • Hear from Dr. Dé. Enjoy a snack while Déana Scipio, director of the EEC Graduate Program, shares insights on the state of the program.

WHO

Prospective students, recently admitted applicants, or anyone interested in learning more about the Education for Environment & Community Graduate Certificate Program are invited to register. Availability is limited, register soon.

WHAT

The campus visit includes opportunities to meet with key members of the IslandWood community, a tour of our main campus and graduate housing, and the interfacing with current graduate students.

Demonstrated interest, as shown by attending any campus event, is not a factor in admission to IslandWood’s graduate program in Education for Environment and Community.

SAFETY

In keeping with local guidelines, our private campus is continuing to require face coverings, minimal contact, and social distancing wherever possible. The majority of the visit will be in open-air, outdoor spaces.
