BRIGHTWATER BUILDERS FAMILY CHALLENGE

August 18, 2021 @ 6:00 am - 8:00 am

Free

Channel your inner beaver and get ready to build! Join IslandWood and King County as we explore how humans and animals engineer structures

Channel your inner beaver and get ready to build! Join IslandWood and King County as we explore how humans and animals engineer structures and landforms to control the way water flows across our land. You and your family will work as an engineering team as we explore and learn how the land at Brightwater was shaped by humans, animals, and water. Afterwards, get your hands dirty building models in our lab to come up with real-world engineering solutions to deal with problems you might see in your own neighborhood like flooding and polluted water.

Adult participation is expected. We want families to learn and work together! Although this event is recommended for families with youth ages 6-12, we are open to all ages. Please make a decision about your child’s ability to participate based on the following information: This event involves 1 mile of walking including some off-trail exploration, taking measurements, making observations, following an investigation procedure, and using simple tools.

COVID-19 note: As of June 21, we are still required by King County (the owner of the site) to have participants wear masks while participating in this event. We will be outdoors for the entirety of the event but all participants ages 5 and up will be required to wear a mask. Adults will be asked to complete an attestation form related to COVID symptoms and exposure before participation. You can read more about IslandWood’s COVID protocols here.
