2022 INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY CELEBRATION – DRUM MAKING WORKSHOP

October 9, 2022 @ 4:00 am - 8:00 am

2022 INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY CELEBRATION

Join in community to celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Bainbridge Island with learning, conversation, and fun! This event spans over two days, with a hands-on drum making workshop on Sunday and a gathering on Monday with refreshments such as fry bread tacos by chef Shelly Price, as well as a traditional song and welcome drumming, and a screening of Honor Thy Mother: the Untold Story of Aboriginal Women and Their Indipino Children followed by a panel discussion.  We hope you’ll join us at Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) Commons!

Traditional Drum Making Workshop

Sunday, October 9, 11am – 3pm

Chief Dale Harry, a Hereditary Chief of Squamish Nation, BC, will facilitate this four-hour workshop where participants will lace their own elk or deer hide over a 14-inch maple frame. At the end of the workshop, Chief Dale will share the teachings of the drum, lead a community-building talking circle and teach a Coast Salish drum song to be sung the following day at the BARN Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration.  Learn more.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the Indigenous community!

Please note this event is taking place at the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) and NOT at IslandWood’s Bainbridge Island campus.
