Imaginative Learning In The Woods On Bainbridge Island

On both our Bainbridge Island campus and at the Brightwater Center in Woodinville, IslandWood Summer Day Camps invite children to open their imaginations in rich natural settings. Our instructors are experienced environmental educators with a passion for connecting children with the outdoors through hands-on exploration that also builds important social and academic skills. With camps ranging from marine science to cooking to journalism, there’s something for everyone.

Refund & Cancellation Policy: 

  • Cancellations at least one month before start date of camp receive a full refund minus a $40 cancellation fee per camp.
  • Cancellations 2-4 weeks before start date of camp receive a 50% refund per camp.
  • Cancellations within 2 weeks of start date of camp are not eligible for any refund.
Half-day camps for campers entering PreK - Kindergarten

Choose from AM Sessions from 9:00 am-12:00 pm, or PM Sessions from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm


Campers must be 4 years old by the first day of camp to attend.


Make-a-Mess Art Camp
Week 1: June 29-July 3

Make sure to wear some grubby clothes because you will be getting messy each day in this camp that’s a whole new spin on arts and crafts. Look at the world through an artist’s eyes as you take on projects where making a mess is a requirement.

Sprouting Scientists

You don’t need a lab coat to be a real scientist - everyone has a little mad professor in them. This camp is designed to introduce young campers to chemistry and physics through colorful art projects, wacky games, and a little magic.

Pay it Forward

Week 1: June 29-July 3

Your service learning team will learn through laughter, challenge, and making a difference in their community.  You will spend half your time developing teamwork skills through a variety of fun challenges and half your time working together in service to others.  This service may be anything from taking small children on adventures in the woods to removing invasive plants from delicate ecosystems.  Through these activities, you will get to know one another, the Bainbridge community, and yourselves much better.  


The Hidden Forest
Week 5: July 27-31

Explore the hidden parts of IslandWood as you journey to places no camper has ever been before. You will slog through the bog, traverse the ravine, and bushwhack around the pond to discover unknown parts of the forest. Choose to understand a piece of the earth more deeply through your own methods: art, writing, scientific investigation, or any other way you can imagine. Chart the uncharted in this camp that takes exploration to the next level.

Volunteers in Outdoor Leadership (VOL)

Teen volunteer opportunities with IslandWood's Summer Program

Like kids? Like the outdoors? Want to spend a couple weeks working with both? IslandWood’s Volunteers in Outdoor Leadership (VOL) is an opportunity to test out your skills in connecting young people with Nature, as well as gain valuable experience in education. As a VOL, you will commit to 2 weeks of volunteering with IslandWood’s Nature Day Camps - working with a group of campers between 4 and 12 years old. Each group is led by an experienced educator, as well as a college intern for you to learn from.

Upon completion of your time at IslandWood, you will receive a certificate of service for 85 hours toward community service, and a possible reference for future employment.

Applicants must be entering 10th-12th Grade to be considered.
