Miriam Shiroma-Kentner, Staff Instructor

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Miriam grew up in Indianola, WA on the beach and in the woods. She was a participant of our School Overnight Program in 2006 when she came with her 5th grade class at Suquamish Elementary. After graduating undergrad at the University of Hawaii at Manoa she returned home and worked to help her family’s business through the pandemic. She heard about IslandWood’s Grad Program from community members and found that it prioritizes and focuses on many of the concepts and practices that she is passionate about. She hopes to develop curriculum that contains principles and actions of how to incorporate environmental education, art, peace, and coexistence with the natural world into all classrooms. Miriam is a recent graduate of IslandWood’s graduate program – class of 2023, and completed her Masters of Education at UW Seattle in 2024. She loves to be on her paddleboard, block print, play tennis, and snuggle with her cat, Chamomile.
