Megan Karch has been IslandWood’s CEO since 2018. Prior to joining IslandWood, Megan served as CEO of the Seattle-based nonprofit, FareStart. During her 18-year tenure at FareStart, she was an instrumental part of the organization’s significant expansion, paving the way for a broader impact on homelessness in the Greater Seattle, Washington area.
Megan is currently the Legislative Co-Chair of the Washington Outdoor School Coalition and serves on the board of PCC Community Markets.
She has been recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal, Senator Maria Cantwell, Seattle Business Magazine, Seattle Met, and Women’s University Club Foundation for her leadership. She has served on or led the boards of the Alliance of Non-Profits, NPower, the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID), and Downtown Seattle Association (DSA). Megan has also served on the Impact Assessment Committee for Washington Women’s Foundation and the Governor’s State Advisory Board on Homelessness.
Prior to coming to the Puget Sound region, Megan lived in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area where she held the position of Vice President of Vocational Services for Humanism, a nonprofit human services agency.
Megan lives with her family on Bainbridge Island, and in her free time enjoys outdoor activities including sailing, cycling, and skiing.
IslandWood acknowledges that the land on which we gather is within the ancestral territory of the suqʷabš “People of Clear Salt Walter” (Suquamish People). Expert fisherman, canoe builders and basket weavers, the suqʷabš live in harmony with the lands and waterways along Washington’s Central Salish Sea as they have for thousands of years. Here, the suqʷabš live and protect the land and waters of their ancestors for future generations as promised by the Point Elliot Treaty of 1855. While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
