Pronouns: she/her/hers

Lois Hartman, the eighth of twelve children, grew up in South Dakota. Lois applied the work ethic, accountability, and customer service skills learned in her family’s grocery business to advance in a series of progressively responsible positions during her 11+ year career in Las Vegas. She began her career as the Aquatics Director of a large athletic club during a time when Las Vegas began rapidly building mega-resorts. Due to increased demand for resort lifeguards and improved pool safety programs, she founded SwimMaster’s Incorporated which provided lifeguard and water safety instructor training certification, and established water fitness and pool safety programs. She subsequently joined the management team that opened the MGM Grand Hotel, the largest hotel in the world at that time, opened and managed the first hotel waterpark at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Resort, and became the pool and health spa manager for the grand re-opening of the Desert Inn Resort.

Lois has held various leadership roles and served as a spokesperson for the Clark County Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross in the field of health and safety. She assisted in a national roll-out for the Lifeguard Training program and helped to implement a program in Drowning Prevention Awareness. Lois also served as an Instructor Trainer for the United States Water Fitness Association.

Lois is a former high school gymnast who has competed in numerous half-marathons, marathons, and team competitions; including a 4-day multi-sport race in Dali, China. She has also acted in several television commercials and infomercials.

Lois has maintained a part-time home on Bainbridge Island since 1998 and made the island her full-time home in 2012. Lois and her husband, Richard Mahoney, adopted their daughter from China in 2006. She enjoys volunteering at Saint Cecilia School and church, at the Bainbridge Island Gymnastics parent club, Bloedel Reserve, and other charitable organizations. Lois loves the outdoors and most any form of exercise, making Bainbridge Island a perfect place to live. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership in addition to a certificate of Servant Leadership from Gonzaga University.
