Pronouns: he/his/him
Exploration and adventure are Jonah’s core values and he’s delighted by the opportunity to pass that torch to the next generation of wilderness explorers. As an Urban Programs Educator, he takes the opportunity to encourage students of all ages to experience their beautiful home with wonder and joy. His teaching hero is Mr. Ray from Finding Nemo, so don’t be surprised if he bursts out in song.
Jonah is an Arizonan transplant to the Pacific Northwest. Growing up he made friends with Sahuaro cacti, prairie dogs, javelinas, and from afar, rattle snakes. His love for animals and the great outdoors started in childhood through a program called 4-H, where he showed his blue ribbon Guinea Pig, Squeakers. In his youth, Jonah’s love for science and exploration flourished in STEM based science programs and summer camps. Jonah went on to work in youth based non profits and sleep away camps. His favorite, Makanakani, on the island of Kauai, where he worked with animal husbandry, citrus, and tea farming.
In his spare time, Jonah is a musician, poet, and storyteller. He also dabbles in improv and fancies himself a sustainable home chef. His journey here at IslandWood is just beginning and watching that story unfold just may be the greatest adventure of all.
IslandWood acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Coast Salish people, who have been stewards of this region's land and waters since time immemorial, and who continue to protect these lands and waters for future generations, as promised by the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, the Treaty of Point No Point of 1855, and the Treaty of Medicine Creek of 1854.
While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish (suq̀ʷabš) and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
