Dan Meyer has enjoyed a 40-year career as a dentist, health care provider, researcher, educator, professional speaker and administrator within the federal government, public, private and non-profit sectors. Dan began his professional career in the U.S. Navy. After serving 20 years, Dan retired as a Navy Captain and the Executive Officer at the Naval Dental Research Institute in Great Lakes, IL. Dan more recently retired as the Chief Scientist and Senior Vice President, Science/Professional Affairs at the American Dental Association in Chicago. Throughout his professional career Dan has focused on integrating science into clinical practice, highlighting the significance of the basic, clinical, behavioral, and environmental sciences. His primary interest has been on the roles of risk assessment, prevention and disease management in determining and improving oral and systemic health outcome measures. Dan has participated at the local, state, national and international levels with numerous professional advisory committees and organizations, including the World Health Organization, FDI World Dental Federation, International Standards Organization, International Association for Dental Research, United Nations Environment Programme, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 (Great Lakes Region), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health and U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Dan has worked extensively with international, federal and regional leaders to help ensure regulations and policies are based on sound science. Dan and his wife, Sally, live on Bainbridge Island and are very active in a variety of community volunteer activities. Dan and Sally are blessed with 5 children and 5 grandchildren. Dan is a graduate of Marquette University School of Dentistry and the Medical College of Virginia.
