Did you know? Owl’s eyes are so large that they can’t move or roll them in their heads like humans can. Because owls primarily hunt at night, the size of their eyes allows them to take in more light and therefore see 35 to 100 times better in low light than humans can.

 

If human eyes were the same proportion to our bodies as owl eyes are to their bodies, our eyes would be the size of softballs! You can see these large eyes in action in this video from last spring of a barred owl on our Bainbridge Island campus!
