Dawson grew up in a small town in Northern California exploring the forests, rivers, and mountains around his home. His upbringing instilled a deep sense of wonder and appreciation for the natural world, which has shaped his studies in environmental science and career in outdoor education. Dawson has worked as a backpacking and sea kayaking guide, ski instructor, botanical research technician, and outdoor educator before finding his way to IslandWood. As an educator, he works to create a safe space in which each student feels their ideas are valued and incorporated into the learning process. His goal is to learn alongside his students and encourage their natural curiosity and wonder while reinforcing their own sense of power. In his free time you might find Dawson hiking, reading, writing songs, thinking too much, or seeking out bodies of water to jump in. EDUCATION: B.S. in Environmental Science and Management and Minor in Religious Studies, University of California, Davis.
