As a graduate of IslandWood’s EEC Graduate Program, I am super excited to be returning as the Interim Campus Day Program Manager. Over the years I have gotten to fall in love with the magic of IslandWood through a multitude of roles including School Day Program Coordinator, Summer Camp Intern, Event Assistant, Graduate Student/Instructor, and Summer Camp Instructor.
I am an east coast transplant originally from the coastal shores of Cape May, New Jersey, the ancestral land of the Lenni-Lenape people. My childhood featured many long summer days learning to surf and build sandcastles, spending crisp autumns by a campfire, and soccer tournaments on the weekends. Following high school graduation, I found my way to the Chesapeake Bay area in Maryland where I attended a small undergraduate institution, Washington College and got my B.A. in Environmental Studies. It was here that I had my first teaching job as a Staff Naturalist at an outdoor school. Shortly after finishing school, I moved out here to the PNW to obtain my Master’s in Education from the University of Washington.
When not teaching my favorite things include chocolate peanut butter ice cream, exploring tide pools, and any water-based sports.
IslandWood acknowledges that we live and work on the ancestral land of the Coast Salish people, who have been stewards of this region's land and waters since time immemorial, and who continue to protect these lands and waters for future generations, as promised by the Point Elliott Treaty of 1855, the Treaty of Point No Point of 1855, and the Treaty of Medicine Creek of 1854.
While the majority of our work takes place on Suquamish (suq̀ʷabš) and Duwamish (dxʷdɐwʔabʃ) land, we also conduct programs on the land of the Snohomish (sduhúbʃ), Puyallup (spuyaləpabš), Muckleshoot (buklshuhls), Skokomish (sqoqc’bes), and S’Klallam (nəxʷsƛ̕ay̕əm) peoples.
