Christopher Glenn is one of three 2025 Impact in Action awardees and we’re so pleased to tell you all about him here!
Christopher is on the early childhood education team at Dunlap Elementary in Seattle, is a member of the Student Council Cadre, participates in the afterschool programs at the school, is a member of the Positive Behavior Intervention Support committee, and finally, he is the Salmon in the Schools program coordinator for the school!
Mr. C. — as the kids call him — has been a staff chaperone for Dunlap students coming to our School Overnight Program for many years. While at IslandWood, he was inspired by our garden and the way students so actively engaged in learning and activities in the garden. With this inspiration, Christopher applied for school district self-help grants and enlisted volunteers from the school community to help re-energize the school’s garden. He organizes frequent Saturday family work parties to remove invasive weeds and has created more arable space for students to plant in. The school has harvested greens, potatoes, tomatoes, and many other vegetables for the last two years, donating food to school families and the neighborhood food bank.
The work Christopher has done, and continues to do, in the garden and with the “Food to Feed Dunlap” project not only teaches students about growing food and sustainability, but it is also a huge community builder. Often on weekends, when he’s in the garden working, kids will see him out their apartment building windows, and they’ll come by and spend some time working and connecting with him, and each other.
