Ramon Shiloh
Artist Bio:
As a child,
Ramon Shiloh of African and Native descent was brought alongside his mother to
watch, learn and respect valued techniques of the art of storytelling, which
defines him today. His mother, a Native
Storyteller, was a pioneer in various communities in Northern
California who greatly influenced her son. After her passing in 1992, following
tradition to honor his mother, Ramon embraced her influence of storytelling. At
the young age of 23 in a world where young people do not often embrace native
traditions, Ramon began presenting Native American stories and songs to the
community.
Ramon Shiloh is one of many young storytellers in the country. His efforts and accomplishments reflect a tradition that contributes to this nation. Who else but the youth can carry on the teachings of oral traditions? Not just Native Americans, but all children from ALL walks of life. During this time when storytelling is looked at as a lost art, we must do what we can to encourage youth to embrace their heritage as a focal part of their existence. When youth are not honored and praised, they walk away from who they are.
