Mike Naylor
Artist Bio:
Mike is a Seattle born artist with extensive teaching experience and formal study of the arts. Her work is fueled by her contemplative and curious nature. She works in a studio in Ballard and begins each day by reading and making notes. She makes 3 dimensional objects which often play a critical role in the development of her paintings and/or other bodies of work.
From the artist: The concept of practice is a dominant force in my life. I row a single shell daily as I am addicted to this opportunity to practice and perfect – and delight in the fact that perfection is always just out of reach. In so many ways repetition serves me well. My artistic ideas and vision often feature multiples of an image. I am currently working to understand more deeply the issues and questions of repetitive work in the contemporary world. As I work I attempt to allow a Zen saying having to do with control, ‘let the horse have its head’, guide me. When I am successful, this shows with that uncanny lack of self-consciousness that is palpable. I am always grateful for those pieces.
