Maketa Wilborn

Maketa doesn’t approach any situation or problem sitting down…and within minutes, neither is the rest of the group! He is a national youth development trainer and organizational development consultant. He designs and facilitates team building, leadership, strategic visioning, community drumming and equity trainings. In all of his work he is committed to integrating a creative and experiential approach with effective process to inspire active engagement and contribution from everyone. Using his experience as an educator, facilitator and artist he uses an inquiry-based approach that draws out the collective knowledge of the group, inspires creative problem-solving and participation, and creates space for authentic connections across difference.

Maketa has been drumming for 14 years and has studied Afro Cuban and West African drumming styles. He has led drum jams and workshops at Seattle Folklife and the Seattle World Rhythm Festival. He is a facilitator for the Drum Café, an international company that leads interactive corporate drumming events and he facilitates Za Boom Ba™ rhythm programs for Source Consulting Group out of Tucson, AZ.

Maketa was also an IslandWood staff member for a number of years so he knows our programs inside and out!
