Laura Sindell

Artist Bio:

Artwork

Laura Sindell is an artist whose work covers many mediums.  Since her education at the San Francisco Art Institute, Interlochen Arts Academy, and RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), she has been making public art, giving lectures, and teaching across the country.  Her often large-scale work demonstrates the convergence of art and science, and prompts viewers to consider their relationship with nature and community.

Artist statement: My primary motivation in creating public art is to present new ideas that will engage and connect people to each other and to their environment.  I am committed to making work that is specific to a site, and universal in meaning.  My background in dance was the catalyst for my intense interest in the kinesthetics of space.  My background as a classical harpist generated my fascination with pattern and symbols.

I experiment.  Whether it’s my hand or the fabricator’s, the viewer is aware of the creative process, the excitement, involvement, commitment.  Above all is my belief in the power of beauty to satisfy our innermost yearning.
