AIR & SIR Programs
Description of Artist-in-Residence and Scientist-in-Residence programs.
The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) and Scientist-in-Residence (SIR) programs provide a venue for professional artists and scientists to have sessions with schoolchildren, workshops for teachers, as well as public talks, workshops, and informal conversation.
Artist-in-Residence Program supports children's education.
IslandWood’s Artist-in-Residence (A.I.R.) program offers a non-traditional residency format that invites professional teaching artists to integrate their artistic medium into the School Overnight Program 4-day residency for 4th-6th graders, or other IslandWood events. Teaching artists work to support environmental learning and self expression while they teach and create alongside children, adults, and families.
Typical residencies are three days with some one day, four day and multi-week residencies available. The AIR program welcomes local, regional and visiting national artists representing an intentional mix of disciplines, media and cultural backgrounds. IslandWood’s arts coordinator works with each artist to refine the educational focus of his/her project to support the artist’s goals and IslandWood’s curriculum, mission and vision.
