Safety at IslandWood

IslandWood's 255 acres of forest and wetland is surrounded by sleepy rural/suburban residential neighborhoods of Bainbridge Island.

The drive-in entrance to our campus is gated during non-business hours and staff is on duty at all hours when children are present. All of our faculty are first aid trained and carry radios that connect to managing staff. The fire department and emergency rescue teams are five minutes from the site.

Pileated Woodpecker

The Pileated Woodpecker is one of the largest woodpeckers in North America. Their presence is confirmed by the rectangular or oval shaped holes they peck in trees. They are zygodactal, two toes point forward and two point backward. This and stiff, spiny tail feathers help to keep their balance on trees while they are in search for food.
