Tues. Evening Activities
You have choices for activities on Tuesday evening:
Sustainability Movies (in Education) Festival
Sustain-imation (Make a Stop Motion Movie)
Games and Curriculum
Sustainability Movies (in Education) Festival
Rather than watch just one movie, we thought we'd spend the evening looking at a series of short videos, as well as trailers for longer films. We built a list of our favorite films, took suggestions from this website. We'll watch 3-4 minutes of a film or it's trailer, then quickly share ideas on how it could be used in your classrooms. (Audience participation expected!) We'll try to capture your ideas, and also make them available on the web - with the ability to add other comments and suggestions later.
Here's a list of the films, with some initial notes...
Sustain-imation (Make a Stop Motion Movie)
You have the opportunity to work with Lukas Allenbaugh from the Clay Animation Network - www.cancancancan.com (that's 4 CAN's) - to create an animated video on the theme of Sustainability - in just 2.5 hours!. The focus will be on the ideas of reduce, re-use, recycle. Lukas works with all sorts of groups - including classrooms full of kids - to help them create animated videos. The final animation will be posted on the website: www.cancancancan.com (4 cans) and we hope to screen it at the closing session of the conference. You'll leave with a greater respect for the creators of Wallace and Gromit and hopefully some ideas on how to help kids tell their stories in a new way. No animation experience is necessary.
Games and Curriculum
Sarah Butzine will introduce and run some sustainability-related games. Green Seattle Partnership/Cascade Land Conservancy/PEI staff will share a new forest evaluation curriculum which involves plant id and restoration hands on activities – very informal but an option for those who want an outdoor experience.
