IslandWood Evaluation Project

14 schools, 6 districts, 2 counties, and over 900 students.

As we wrap up the final stage of the IslandWood Evaluation Project we get ready to gather findings and take a look at the results. Stage 1 was completed in December and provided a broad look at the short-term impacts of the School Overnight Program on students in terms of personal growth, classroom community, attitudes toward learning, relationship with the environment, and environmental knowledge. It also provided some information about the longevity of these impacts.

Pond-Harbour

Stage 2, conducted from January to April 2008, provided an opportunity to look beyond the general and delve deeply into what's happening to students during their time at IslandWood.

The full version of the IslandWood Report Card Research Plan is available on this page, including details of the experimental design, full descriptions of the assessment tools we are developing, and examples of survey items.

The lesson plan for one of the embedded assessment tools we used in both stages of the study is also available, the ABC Gameshow.

Harbor

The harbor was the site of the old Port Blakely Mill, established in 1864 by Captain Renton. Once the largest mill operation in the world, this community had electricity before Seattle.
