UW College of Education Admissions
the University of Washington.
Students have two options:
- Enroll as a UW degree-seeking graduate student when you begin your time at IslandWood, or
- Enroll as a UW graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student when you begin your time at IslandWood.
UW degree-seeking graduate student
Under this option, you would apply for admission to the University as a degree-seeking graduate student, and would begin your time at IslandWood with that status. The deadline for applying to the UW for Autumn Quarter matriculation is May 1. You will apply to the Area of Curriculum and Instruction, and either the Teaching & Curriculum or Science Education study options. Please note that many items must be submitted when you apply. We recommend that you start early as it often takes several months to gather the necessary application materials.
Enroll as a UW graduate non-matriculated (GNM)
Under this option, you would not be enrolled as a degree-seeking graduate student when you begin your academic year at IslandWood, but you would be able to take courses and earn graduate credit hours during the summer and fall that can be used towards a masters degree at the UW. Up to 12 GNM credit hours can apply towards your UW Master of Education degree. The GNM application process is free (there is no application fee) and entails filling out a short application form and sending two official transcripts. The GNM application deadline for Autumn Quarter (the quarter when you would begin your time at IslandWood) is July 1.
Please note that if you start as a GNM student and wish to enroll as a degree-seeking graduate student for the Winter Quarter of your residency year the application deadline is November 1.
