Outside of classes, my time at Oberlin was filled with leading the Outdoor Classroom, a program that teaches natural science lessons to local elementary students utilizing a schoolyard garden; tutoring K-2 graders and coordinating college tutors in the America Reads literacy tutoring program; and actively participating in the Bonner Scholars service-learning program.  I also studied abroad for six months with a ecology and conservation program in Ecuador during my junior year, where I traversed the country learning about the Amazon Rain Forest, the Galapagos Islands, the Andean Cloud Forest, Ecuadorian culture, the Spanish language, and completed an extensive independent research project on environmental education in a small coastal town. In recent summers, I have worked with the Audubon Society\'s nature education camps and Caldera, a non-profit arts and environmental mentoring program for at-risk youth.
