*Please note that these details differ for Forest 2 Sound Campers. Scroll to the bottom of the page to access information specific to this camp.*
Preparing Your Camper
Talk to your child about what to expect during camp. Encourage them to be ready to play outside, learn about nature, get a little dirty, and make new friends. They will be sure to have fun if they are open to trying new things. View and print a list of things to pack for Overnight Campers. Please note that this list will differ slightly for Forest 2 Sound Campers.
Arrival and Departure
Check-in
Please plan to sign in your camper at 3 PM on Sunday, July 10th at the IslandWood Welcome Center. There will be signs along the trail to guide you. If you are taking the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry see the attached ferry schedule. Please take into account the ferry wait time of up to an hour and the crossing time of approximately 35 minutes when planning your trip to IslandWood. We recommend taking the 2:05 pm ferry from Seattle. Please keep in mind that ferry schedules are subject to change.
Use the trip planner to get up-to-date ferry information: http://www.wsdot.com/ferries/Schedule
Check-out
On the last day of camp, there will be a family sharing time from 3:15 - 4:00pm. Check-out will take place at family sharing time. Please follow the signs to your family sharing location.
To ensure the safety of your child, you will need to show a photo ID for pick up on Friday. If you do not have your ID you will be asked to retrieve it before picking up your child.
If another adult will be picking up your child, please provide a signed note by a parent or legal guardian stating the date, adult’s name, the camper’s name, and your signature. All notes must be given to the summer programs coordinator or the registrars by a parent or legal guardian.
If you are taking the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry see the ferry schedule. Please take into account the potential for very long wait times at the ferry terminal on Friday afternoons when planning your return visit to IslandWood. We recommend taking the 2:05pm ferry from Seattle.
Safety/Supervision
Participants are supervised at all times by trained adult IslandWood Summer Staff. All lead instructors carry radios in the field and are certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR. The staff will lead evening activities with participants as well as stay in the chaperone rooms of the lodge to ensure child safety during the evenings.
Programming
All of IslandWood summer programs take into consideration the needs of each child attending camp. Camp activities and lessons are catered towards the interest of the participants and the program theme. Program schedules may vary depending on the group’s interest.
Snacks/Food
IslandWood will provide all meals including snacks for each group. Campers are out in the field all day; we encourage each child to drink plenty of water. Please make sure your explorer has a sturdy water bottle with them upon arrival. No snacks or food will be allowed in the lodges, so please do not send your camper with food.
Gift Shop
The IslandWood gift shop will be open on Sunday during check-in and Friday after Family Sharing Time. We ask that parents supervise their children making gift shop purchases. Please do not send money with your child. IslandWood cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen money.
Parent/Child Telephone Use
Because of the number of participants we have at IslandWood and since we are out in the field or in activities the majority of the time, we do not allow participants to use the phones. Participants may use a phone only when there is an emergency, and are accompanied by an IslandWood staff member.
Emergency Phone Instructions
IslandWood’s main number is 206.855.4300. If calling for your child, any incoming emergency message will be delivered as soon as possible. All lead instructors carry radios in the field and are certified in Wilderness First Aid and CPR.
Letters/Care packages to Campers
We will be sure to give your camper any mail or packages that you would like to send while they are here. Please address it to the camper and C/O Summer Programs Coordinator. Mail to: 4450 Blakely Ave NE. Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
Please do not send food or candy in care packages.
