Mark your calendars for IslandWood’s first annual HARVEST DINNER on Saturday, November 8, 2008. The event will include a reception, dinner and entertainment. Look for more details soon!

A. An Event Like No Other at IslandWood
On May 3rd, a sell-out crowd of 260 guests attended our annual Dinner in the Woods, which returned to IslandWood’s campus this year after last May’s event in Seattle.
B. PROFILE: Northgate Elementary
Located just a few blocks from a newly renovated shopping mall in north Seattle, Northgate Elementary is a great example of a school that IslandWood was created to serve. Nine out of every ten students is a child of color and 80% participate in the school’s Free and Reduced Lunch Program.
C. A letter from our Executive Director
A recent issue of The Chronicle of Philanthropy outlined characteristics of the highest performing nonprofits, and topping the list was the notion that collaboration, not competition, serves us all.
D. Donor Profile: A Common Connection
LAURIE AND KEN MYER are among IslandWood’s most active and committed supporters.
E. Safeco Insurance Foundation Supports IslandWood's Capital Campaign
The rapid success of IslandWood’s campus expansion campaign is due in large part to the generous support of a number of private and corporate foundations, including the Safeco Insurance Foundation which recently awarded IslandWood a $110,000 grant.
F. Making an Impact Beyond Our Wildest Dreams
What we do at IslandWood, by design, is intended to inspire stewardship beyond our campus borders—to influence individuals at home, school and work. This year, we learned that IslandWood is making a tangible impact beyond our country’s borders. IslandWood’s Director of Education Pat O’Rourke and Director of Finance and General Services Laurie Lusk recently visited Dongyanshan, affectionately known as the “IslandWood of Taiwan.”
H. "Where's Its Mommy?"
Spring is a time of birth. It is also a time of finding “abandoned” baby animals and wondering what to do with them. In almost all cases, the answer should be “nothing.” Nature has been working on its parenting systems for quite some time now, and has them down pretty well.
I. Families In Nature Series
Imagine children allowed to play in the woods beside their school during recess! Today, safety and liability concerns keep children in full view of their recess supervisors and some school districts are even banning outdoor recess altogether.
K. Every Difference Counts
Students in our School Overnight Program leave IslandWood inspired as lifelong environmental and community stewards.
L. IslandWood Summer Camps: More Kids, More Ages, Coming from More States
Nearly 800 children will flock to IslandWood this summer to learn about the environment, meet new friends and create lasting memories. Our campus will host 42 summer camps this year, for families and for kids ranging in age from 4 to 16.
M. New State Grant Brings Old Friends Together
An exciting partnership between IslandWood and our colleagues at North Cascades Institute and Olympic Park Institute has received major funding from the State of Washington.
N. The Gift of a Lifetime
Planned gift, deferred gift, estate gift - all represent ways to manage your financial future and make a lasting impact on IslandWood.
O. Making Lasting Change
Our effort to expand IslandWood’s campus and serve 1,000 additional children is now approaching its goal.
P. It's All About Them
IslandWood Poet-in-Residence Vicky Edmonds has been teaching kids how to express themselves through verse for nearly 20 years. She brings her passion and wealth of experience to her work with the children in our School Overnight Program.
