Special Needs Visitors at IslandWood

Kyle Melby and Haley Stouli learn first-hand about worms at IslandWood. The BRIDGE program (Building Recreational Interest for Diverse Groups in Education) brought 35 special needs children, 8 parents, 10 paraprofessionals, and 3 special education teachers to IslandWood to share discovery and appreciation of nature at the outdoor learning center on Bainbridge Island - a fun way for children to stay active and connected with the community.

Invertebrate Inn Fireplace

The igneous rocks of the Invertebrate Inn's fireplace were formed by the cooling of hot molten material, called magma when it intrudes below the surface of the Earth and lava when it extrudes out across the Earth's surface. The fireplace rocks are all intrusive, and are coarse grained because crystals had more time to grow in magma that cooled slowly deep below the Earth's surface.
