You are here: Home About IslandWood Enviro-Explorations

Welcome to the Enviro-Explorers Blog!

Find out what's creeping, crawling and flying at IslandWood and in your backyard.

If you’ve ever wondered:

What type of (bird, squirrel, spider, berry, bug, etc.) is that?

Does it bite?

Is that supposed to be here?

Is it edible?

How big will it grow?

Then you are an Enviro-Explorer!  And you are in good company.  IslandWood naturalists welcome your questions, curiosities or comments, and we hope you will share with us what you are seeing out there (even if your “out there” happened to be the big hairy spider in the bathtub this morning).  Twice a month, I’ll be posting the nerdiest facts you can imagine here on this web page hoping to quench some of your insatiable nature thirst. Scroll down to read recent posts, add a reply or post a question.  Your email address will not display when you post, but you must enter your name (or that alias you've been dying to try out) and an email address first.  This is so the blog isn't spammed within an inch of it's bloggy life.

Christina and her favorite slug speciesIf you’d like to come exploring in person with one of us here at IslandWood, then check out our calendar of events at www.islandwood.org/events and sign up for one of our scheduled Enviro-Explorations.  By popular demand we’ll be leading Enviro-Explorations twice a month for a variety of ages and interests.  Hope to see or hear from you soon!

Christina Doherty can be found turning over logs and rocks for critters, singing to slugs and humming to snails.  She lives on Bainbridge Island with her husband, son and daughter.
